Bleu de Chauffe. French artisanship
It is a rare pleasure to find a product entirely handmade in a single country, as most of the time, the steps involved in bringing a product to the final consumer often include several flights from different countries. Globalization is a deep and important issue that involves us all, and Bleu de Chauffe has found an important place to take a stand against it. They source, produce, and assemble all their products in France, in Aveyron, a region with wild landscapes and remarkable biodiversity. It is a place whose inhabitants are committed and politically active, where Bleu de Chauffe decided to make its home over 10 years ago.
At Bleu de Chauffe, there are no production lines. Every artisan is trained to master every step required to make a bag from start to finish, an approach that values individual work and goes against a production system that exploits workers and artisans. Every single bag at the end of production is dated and signed by the artisan who made it, as a sign of proud craftsmanship.
The story of this French leather goods company, with a strong political conscience committed to respecting people and the environment, really surprised me. When I got the chance to work with them, I happily accepted. And their products are truly great.
I would highly recommend Bleu de Chauffe to anyone looking for a leather or canvas bag. Best of all, they also have motorcycle saddle bags!
At the Goodwood Revival event in Chichester, south of England my Postman bag Eclair in dark brown and Fisherman Musette XS musk suede, brilliantly completed the outfit, allowing me to carry around all my photography equipment.
